Program Overview


Introduction to the 2026 University of Chicago Mathematics Department Summer Research Project

The University of Chicago Mathematics Department Summer Research Project aims to provide students with in-depth learning and research opportunities. The project consists of three aspects: course learning, research guidance, and problem-solving.

Applicant Requirements

  1. Eligibility: Formal full-time 2023-level mathematics and applied mathematics majors at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences; love the country, obey the law, have good conduct, and have comprehensive development of moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic qualities.
  2. Academic Performance: Excellent academic performance (GPA 3.65 or above).
  3. English Language Proficiency: Excellent English listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities, with an IBT TOEFL score of 80 or above, or an IELTS score of 7 or above. If the applicant does not have the above scores, they can provide other English proficiency proofs (such as four-level or six-level scores, or high school scores), and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Chicago Mathematics Department will review the applicant's qualifications.

  • Deadline for submitting electronic application materials: January 20, 2026, 17:00.
  1. Online Application at the University of Chicago:
  • After the internal application deadline, nominated students will be notified to complete the online application for the 2026 University of Chicago Mathematics Department Summer Research Project and submit application materials (some application materials can be prepared in advance and do not need to be submitted during the nomination stage).
  • Application materials include: English resume Research statement (i.e., the University of Chicago Mathematics Department Summer Research Project Application Form) Official English transcript of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences Recommendation letters (2-3 letters, submitted by recommenders through the application platform)

  1. The project is open to undergraduate students of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
  2. Applicants should carefully read the project-related information in Attachment 1 and apply according to their actual situation.
  3. The final admission decision is made by the University of Chicago Mathematics Department.
  4. The credits earned in this project cannot be converted into credits of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
