MEDI8314 Assessment of Clinical Capability and Entrustment Development

Overview

This full year assessment unit integrates with the three core clinical placement units (MEDI8311, MEDI8312, MEDI8313) where students will be embedded in healthcare teams working with individuals with a variety of health conditions in Stage 2 of the Macquarie MD.

• Unit description: This unit requires participation in healthcare delivery and demonstration of significant progress toward the development of the 4 Macquarie MD Graduate Capabilities: Scientist and Scholar, Clinical Practitioner, Engaged Global Citizen, and Professional, and the Graduate Entrustable Professional Activities at a standard appropriate to Stage 2.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. ULO1: Apply knowledge of relevant medical sciences, health conditions, scientific principles, and mechanisms of disease to explain clinical presentations.
2. ULO2: Formulate focused clinical questions, use effective information search strategies, critically evaluate the quality of the evidence, and develop evidence-based and/or research-informed judgments on clinical presentations and medical issues.
3. ULO3: Elicit a concise and accurate medical history and conduct a physical and/or mental examination with patients seeking healthcare.
4. ULO4: Build rapport and communicate sensitively in clinical settings with patients, their families, and/or carers.
5. ULO5: Use research-informed clinical reasoning to derive differential diagnoses, investigations, and basic management plans for people seeking healthcare.
6. ULO6: Communicate history and physical examination findings, differential diagnoses, and management plans concisely and accurately in verbal or written form to interprofessional healthcare teams and/or peers.
7. ULO7: Perform procedural skills competently and safely in a clinical environment.
8. ULO8: Practice effectively and with cultural responsiveness and sensitivity in Australian and Indian clinical settings.
9. ULO9: Identify and discuss social, cultural, and economic factors, as well as healthcare team and health system factors, which may impact on healthcare and population health.
10. ULO10: Demonstrate effective teamwork and professional behavior in accordance with ethical, legal, and professional standards of medical care.
11. ULO11: Use feedback from teachers, clinicians, peers, and patients to inform self-evaluation and critical reflection, and generate development plans to address learning needs.
