M.S. Hospitality Management

The Master of Science in Hospitality Management is a 36-hour program designed to prepare students to excel, lead, and increase their earning potential in the dynamic hospitality industry. The program can be completed on the University of Houston main campus over the course of two academic years, or as part of an accelerated plan or on a part-time basis.


Professional Track

The Professional Track is aimed at students who want to work in the industry or already work in the industry and want to grow and advance in their careers. The track includes a professional development course, GHL 6360 – Graduate Directed Practicum, which allows students to take on an operations issue at their current place of employment and conduct research to propose a solution.


Research Track

The Research Track is designed for students who wish to conduct research and contribute new knowledge to a specific field and are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. after completing their M.S. degree. The track includes research development courses, such as GHL 6190 – Research Proposal and GHL 6382 – Methods of Research in Hospitality.


Admission Requirements

To apply for admission to the M.S. Hospitality Management program, students must:


  • Submit a complete graduate admission application
  • Pay the application fee ($50 for domestic applicants, $80 for international applicants)
  • Submit a complete resume or curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Submit a personal statement (approximately 250 words, double-spaced)
  • Submit an official college transcript (from all institutions attended) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Submit three letters of recommendation
  • Participate in an applicant interview (unless waived)

International applicants must also submit:


  • An official degree certificate or diploma
  • Official TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores (English language proficiency)
  • A letter of financial backing form
  • A copy of the biometric page of their passport

Scholarships

Scholarships from Hilton College are awarded based on class rank, which is determined by the complete application packet and professional industry experience, and as funding is available. Students who are not initially awarded scholarships can apply for a scholarship before the annual deadline of March 1st after they have been enrolled in at least one semester in the graduate program.


Deadlines

The deadlines for application are:


  • Fall: May 31 (Priority Deadline of May 1)
  • Spring: October 1 for international applicants and November 1 for domestic applicants

Admission decisions are made based on the evaluation of a complete file submitted by the application deadline. The official decision will be posted on the applicant's application, and applicants will receive an email notification that the decision letter is available.
