The India Studies program at the University of Houston is an interdisciplinary program that cultivates excellence in teaching and learning through cooperation with various departments.
Mission
India Studies cultivates excellence in teaching and learning through interdisciplinary cooperation. The program offerings disseminate India's heritage from ancient to modern; ranging from science to arts and humanities. Interdisciplinary offerings in the fields of anthropology, art history, religion, politics, economy, sociology, and language and literature prepare students to acquire cultural competency and other skills necessary to understand the responsibility of civil global citizenship.
Vision
In keeping with the mission of an internationally recognized, culturally diverse, urban university, the India Studies program at the University of Houston promotes knowledge and scholarship on India's societies, cultures, heritage and diaspora through the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. India Studies nurtures the University's relationship with the Indian American community resources and maintains its standing as a global hub for the study of India.
