Introduction to the Source of Strength Program
The Source of Strength program is a leadership development initiative co-sponsored by LeadUH and Cougars in Recovery. This program is designed to engage students who are in recovery from alcohol and/or other addictions through a series of leadership trainings and Cougars in Recovery events.
Program Philosophy
The Source of Strength program is grounded in three pillars: leadership, community, and academics. It aims to cultivate, strengthen, and refine the leadership potential, interpersonal effectiveness, and self-confidence of its participants.
Program Details
The Source of Strength program is a leadership development program designed for CIR community leaders. The purpose of the program is to help participants develop their leadership skills, build a stronger sense of community among their peers, and enhance their academic success.
Mentee Learning Outcomes
As a result of participating in the Source of Strength Leadership Program, mentees will be able to:
- Demonstrate interpersonal effectiveness (communication, interpersonal relationships)
- Develop life skills (time management, study skills, etc.)
- Explore their career path by discovering their interests and opportunities for the future
- Exhibit increased confidence in self-efficacy
Benefits of Participation
There are many benefits to being an active member of the Source of Strength Leadership Program, including:
- Learning more about oneself and one's abilities as a leader
- Making new friends and building a network at the University of Houston
- Enhancing one's recovery foundation
- Building one's resume and networking abilities
- Earning a place in the Outdoor Leadership Program
- Being recognized at the annual Graduation Celebration
Eligibility
To participate in the Source of Strength program, students must be a member of the Cougars in Recovery community.
