Thesis & Dissertation Writing Accelerator

The University of Houston Graduate School, in collaboration with the UH Writing Center, hosts the Thesis & Dissertation Writing Accelerator, an intensive, in-person writing experience designed to help graduate students make substantial progress on their thesis or dissertation.


Program Details

  • Structured Writing Schedule: A carefully curated schedule that prioritizes dedicated blocks of time for writing and research, designed to optimize productivity and minimize distractions.
  • Focused Environment: A distraction-free, professional setting that promotes concentration and efficiency, allowing participants to make meaningful progress on their thesis or dissertation.
  • Networking Opportunities: Opportunities to connect with fellow graduate students across disciplines, fostering an environment of peer support, shared experiences, and professional growth.
  • Pre-Event Meetings: Mandatory preparatory meetings to outline individual goals, establish expectations, and ensure readiness to fully benefit from the writing accelerator experience.

Requirements and Preparations

  • Full Commitment to Focused Writing: Participants are expected to refrain from checking emails, texts, social media, or browsing the internet during designated writing sessions to maintain a productive environment.
  • Technology: Computers will be available on-site; however, participants are welcome to bring their own laptops if preferred.
  • Meals and Refreshments: Lunch, coffee, and water will be provided daily. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own beverages, breakfast, lunch, or snacks if desired.

Registration Details

  • Limited Availability: Spaces are highly limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Program Admission: Registration is open, and early registration is strongly encouraged due to limited capacity.
  • Full Attendance Requirement: Participants must commit to attending the entire four-day program, which runs daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • Prior Attendance Policy: Individuals previously admitted but unable to attend or who did not show up will not be eligible to register for this session.
