MSIE Degree Program
Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MSIE)
The Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MSIE) degree requires 30 semester hours of approved graduate courses. This includes 21 hours of coursework, 3 hours of research, and 6 hours of thesis. These requisite degree program hours are in addition to any leveling courses. All MSIE students must take INDE 6111 (graduate seminar course) at least once during their studies.
MSIE Core Courses
Students are required to take five core courses based on the following options:

- INDE 6363 Statistical Process Control
- INDE 6370 Digital Simulation
- Category 3:
- INDE 6332 Engineering Project Management
- INDE 6361 Production Planning and Control
- INDE 6383 Engineering Design and Prototyping
- INDE 7390 Supply Chain Management Students are required to take at least one course from each of the three categories. No more than 6 semester hours of coursework applied to this degree may be taken outside the IE Department, with prior approval by the IE Graduate Program Director.
Thesis Advisory Committee for M.S. Candidates
The candidate must select a thesis advisory committee as soon as possible, but no later than the end of the first academic year. The advisory committee must be approved by the IE Director of Graduate Programs and the IE Department Chair. The advisory committee must be composed of at least three faculty members, with at least two from the IE department at UH. A formal thesis proposal must be submitted to the Advisory Committee and the Director of Graduate Programs within one semester after the Advisory Committee is selected and approved.
