Hydrogeology Certificate
The Hydrogeology Certificate is designed for professionals seeking formal recognition of their expertise in hydrogeology without completing a full advanced degree. Offered through the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, the program provides students with foundational and applied knowledge in hydrogeology, geospatial analysis, and geochemistry.
What You'll Achieve
- Develop technical proficiency in geospatial analysis, hydrogeology principles, and geochemical methods.
- Fulfill the coursework required to earn a recognized Hydrogeology Certification.
- Gain hands-on experience through lab-based learning and fieldwork components.
How You Will Benefit
- Broaden career opportunities in environmental consulting, government agencies, and the energy sector.
- Strengthen field, laboratory, and analytical skills essential for hydrogeology and environmental science roles.
- Build a foundation to transition into or advance within the environmental and hydrogeological industries.
Job Opportunities
The Hydrogeology Certificate prepares students for careers in high-demand fields such as environmental consulting, energy, and government research. Employers seek professionals with hydrogeology expertise. With hands-on training and formal certification, graduates are positioned to meet the growing need for specialists in:
- Groundwater management
- Environmental assessments
- Geoscience applications
Requirements
Admission Requirements
- Must have completed a bachelor's degree in geosciences or civil engineering with a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 (A=4.00) in the last 60 hours of all course work.
- Must have completed undergraduate course work equivalent to that required for a Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, or Environmental Sciences at the University of Houston, or additional course work to make up undergraduate deficiencies may be required.
- Deficiencies will be noted at the time of admission.
- Transcripts are required.
- GRE scores are not required.
- For students enrolled in a graduate program, courses used for certification can also be used towards a graduate degree.
A student can be admitted either:
- to a graduate program in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Houston, or
- to the Hydrogeology Certificate program as a "non-degree seeking" graduate student.
