Program Overview
Alternative Teacher Certification
The University of Houston Alternative Certification Program (UH ACP) is designed to help individuals become certified teachers in the state of Texas. Traditionally, teachers must pass a Texas teaching certification test before teaching in the classroom. However, due to the current shortage of teachers in Texas, the state has enabled potential teachers to work on a temporary certification while earning a permanent certification. This means teachers can start working almost immediately and receive a full teacher's salary plus benefits.
