Alternative Teacher Certification

The University of Houston Alternative Certification Program (UH ACP) is designed to help individuals become certified teachers in the state of Texas. Traditionally, teachers must pass a Texas teaching certification test before teaching in the classroom. However, due to the current shortage of teachers in Texas, the state has enabled potential teachers to work on a temporary certification while earning a permanent certification. This means teachers can start working almost immediately and receive a full teacher's salary plus benefits.

Program Overview

UH ACP guides individuals step-by-step through the Texas teaching certification process and creates success. The program has partnerships with Houston-area school districts, providing immediate job opportunities to those in the program.
