Program Overview
Construction Management Professional Certificate
The Construction Management (CM) Certificate provides students with essential knowledge and skills to advance their careers. Students are prepared for practical knowledge in project management, estimating, scheduling, project controls, and contract administration. The program helps students transition to Construction Management jobs, such as Estimators, Schedulers, Contract Administrators, Construction/Field Engineers, Field Superintendents, and Construction/Project Managers.
Courses & Format
To earn the Construction Management (CM) professional certificate, the following four online courses must be successfully completed:
- CMCP 05 Construction Management Principles: Introduces the principles of management, construction industry roles and responsibilities, and an overview of common project management tools.
- CMCP 10 Contract Administration: Covers administering construction contracts, including legal hierarchy of contract documents, interrelationships, liabilities, typical contract challenges, chain of commands, warranties, and progress/final payments.
- CMCP 20 Cost Analysis & Bidding: Addresses the preparation of parametric and definitive estimates, cost forecasts and variances, bid analysis, and use of estimating software.
- CMCP 30 Project Planning & Management: Covers the development/use of bar charts, CPM network diagrams, CPM calculations, resource loading and schedule compression, and the use of Primavera P6 Software.
Diploma & CEUs
Upon successful completion, students receive a Certificate Diploma/digital badge issued by the University of Houston, Construction Management program, and earn 16 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), equivalent to 160 instructional hours. Completion of the certificate courses prepares students for future licensing exams, such as the Associate Contractor or Certified Professional Contractor offered by the American Institute of Constructors.
Program Offering Schedule
The program and courses are offered throughout the year, and the program can be completed in as short as one year. Courses can be taken in any order:
- CMCP05 & CMCP10: summer semester (May-August) and fall semester (August-December)
- CMCP20 & CMCP30: spring semester only (January-May)
Program Cost & Registration
Tuition for each course is $1,500, and the total tuition for the certificate program of four courses is $6,000.
