Introduction to the FoReLab Degree Certificate

The FoReLab project is an excellence training path dedicated to students of Master's degree courses in Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering. This initiative is part of the didactic activities of the FoReLab project of the Department of Information Engineering, which was awarded the Department of Excellence grant by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) for the period 2023/2027.

Program Requirements

To obtain the FoReLab degree certificate, students must:

  • Include in their study plan an elective activity chosen from the "FoReLab group" (selected from the Master's degree study plan provided by the Department of Information Engineering) as "Insegnamento facoltativo attivit‡ a scelta dello studente" for 9 CFU.
  • Develop a thesis work aimed at addressing and solving a state-of-the-art research problem relevant to the FoReLab project themes.
  • Write the thesis in English.

FoReLab Group Activities

The FoReLab group suggested activities from which interested students can choose include:

  • Advanced Computer Networking (aka Advanced Network Architectures and Wireless Systems) 9 CFU
  • Cloud Computing 9 CFU
  • Dependable and Secure Systems (aka Formal Methods for Secure Systems) 9 CFU
  • Industrial Applications 9 CFU
  • Internet of Things 9 CFU
  • Large-Scale and Multi-Structured Databases 9 CFU
  • Multimedia Information Retrieval and Computer Vision 9 CFU
  • System and Network Hacking 9 CFU

Double Degree Program

The program also offers a Double Degree in Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Research Areas

The FoReLab project focuses on research areas relevant to Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, including but not limited to networking, cloud computing, secure systems, industrial applications, internet of things, databases, multimedia information retrieval, and computer vision.
