Program Overview

QSuccess First-Year Mentorship Program

The QSuccess program is an innovative mentorship initiative created and delivered in collaboration with educators, wellness experts, professional staff, and student leaders. The program aims to remove barriers and contribute to a successful transition through the first year of university through ongoing engagement and one-on-one mentoring.

Program Description

QSuccess is one of several mentorship programs partnering with Mentor Canada in delivering an innovative mentorship platform that hosts curriculum, resources, and communication for mentorship program participants. The program has been designed to provide a safe and secure environment for first-year students to connect with peers and mentors.

Benefits of QSuccess

The QSuccess program is open to all first-year Queen's students and can help participants:

  • Develop skills to succeed academically, including time management, note-taking, and study skills
  • Learn to balance the academic and social demands of university life
  • Develop strategies to stay physically and mentally healthy
  • Meet peers and develop a campus community
  • Connect to other campus resources that can play a role in their success
  • Have a mentor as a listening ear as they navigate the challenges and celebrate the successes of their first year at Queen's

Mentee Registration

First-year mentee registration is open, and students can self-match with a mentor at any point during the summer or the academic year. However, students are encouraged to apply prior to the beginning of the fall semester to get the most out of the program. The registration process involves:

  1. Registering with a Queen's student email
  2. Building a Mentee Profile
  3. Self-matching with a mentor in the Mentor Database

Mentor Role

Mentors are not tutors and cannot help with course or program-specific content questions. They are holistically trained in Mentorship, Resources and Referrals, Learning Strategies, Health and Wellness, Intercultural Awareness, and other areas. Mentors and mentees meet one-on-one on a weekly basis for the duration of the academic year.

Becoming a QSuccess Mentor

Upper-year mentors play a vital role in the QSuccess program. Students who have a passion for supporting first-year students can check out available positions to become a QSuccess mentor.
