Program Overview

The Smith School of Business at Queen's University offers a Master of International Business program, which is a significant investment of time and money. The program requires careful consideration of various expenses, including program fees, textbooks, student fees, financing options, accommodations, travel, and living expenses.

Program Fee

The program fee includes tuition, non-tuition fees, and textbook/course material fees for the first term at Smith. Students are responsible for all costs associated with textbooks/course materials incurred during the exchange and/or double degree portion of the program. The program fee varies depending on whether the student is considered a domestic or international applicant.

16-Month Double Degree

Student Fees

There are two types of student fees:

• Student Activity Fees (SAF)
• Student Assistance Levy (SAL)

Student Activity Fees (SAF)

The SAF is a fee administered at the beginning of each academic year by the Society of Graduate and Professional Students (SGPS). The SAF includes health and dental insurance fees.

Student Assistance Levy (SAL)

The SAL is assessed in equal installments according to the schedule laid out in the tables. Revenue from the Levy supports the Queen's learning environment, various financial assistance programs for students, and the Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP).

Financing Options

Financing options are available for domestic and international students, including:

• Personal Income Tax Treatment of Tuition Fees (Domestic Students)

Accommodations

Accommodation expenses are not included in the program fee. Housing costs in Kingston range from $2,500 to $5,000 CAD per term, depending on the type of accommodation and number of roommates.

Travel

The program fee does not include travel to and from the exchange/double degree destination. Students will need to factor these costs into their financial plan for the program.

Living Expenses

While in Kingston, students may budget for the following expenses:

• Food: $1,500 (approximately per term)
• Clothing: $250 (approximately)
• Miscellaneous (not including traveling): $600 (approximately)

UHIP (for international students only)

All international students are required by Ontario law to enroll in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) for the duration of their program at Queen's University. The UHIP plan includes basic health coverage both in Canada and abroad.
