Bachelor's of Applied Science (BAS) Program

The Bachelor's of Applied Science (BAS) program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in applied sciences. The program is offered by George Mason University and is limited to students in the UN-BAS-APLS program.

Program Courses

The BAS program includes a range of courses that are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in applied sciences. Some of the courses offered in the program include:

• BAS 300: Building Professional Competencies (3 credits) This course serves as an orientation to the BAS degree program and assesses current strengths and future planning. It emphasizes core competency areas related to personal effectiveness and academic/workplace success.
• BAS 490: Introduction to Research Methods (3 credits) This course introduces students to fundamental research methods and processes, exploring research interests and identifying topics for study.
• BAS 491: Applied Sciences Capstone (3 credits) Students participate in an approved fieldwork study program and complete a research project, choosing and researching a workplace problem, designing and implementing a plan of action, and formally presenting the project.
• BAS 492: Capstone Development (3 credits) Students learn and prepare professional objectives, creating a portfolio, reflecting on personal experience, and associating with their field of study.
• BAS 493: BAS Capstone (3 credits) Students participate in an approved fieldwork study program, integrating knowledge from coursework and synthesizing it in practical application, including workplace experience, class discussion, and a final project presentation.

Registration Restrictions

Registration for BAS courses is restricted to students in the Bachelor of Applied Science degree program, with specific prerequisites and requirements for each course.

Grading

All BAS courses are graded on the Undergraduate Regular scale.

Mason Core

The BAS program includes courses that fulfill Mason Core requirements, providing students with a well-rounded education.

Concentrations

The BAS program offers concentrations in Cloud Computing and Cybersecurity, allowing students to specialize in their area of interest.

Enrollment Limitations

Enrollment in the BAS program is limited to students with a class of Junior Plus, Senior Plus, or Senior, and students must meet specific requirements and prerequisites for each course.
