Program Overview


Introduction to the Civic Fellows Program

The Civic Fellows Program is a prestigious initiative that offers students the opportunity to engage in community service and civic engagement. The program is designed to foster a sense of social responsibility and community involvement among students.


Requirements for Students

To be eligible for the Civic Fellows Program, students must meet the following requirements:


  • Be in good academic standing with George Mason University
  • Commit to 8-10 hours of service at their partner site
  • Attend bi-weekly meetings of the Civic Fellows program and participate in any activities of the program
  • Attend the Civic Fellows Orientation

Application Process

The application process for the Civic Fellows Program consists of two rounds:


  • First Round: The Application
    • The application is available on August 1st via Handshake
    • Students must submit their rťsumťs and complete a Student Information Form
    • The application closes on August 31st
    • On September 1st, chosen applicants will be emailed a sign-up link for two days of interviews with Community Partners
  • Second Round: The Interviews
    • Interviews take place on September 11th and 12th via Zoom
    • This is an opportunity for potential Fellows to ask organizations about partner expectations, tasks, location, and other questions
    • Following interviews, students will note their top 3 Partner choices

Selection and Placement

  • The first round of students will be notified about their Community Partner matches by September 19th
  • The second round of students will be contacted on September 24
  • The mandatory 2025 Civic Fellow Orientation will be on October 3rd
  • Placements begin on October 5th

Other Requirements and Considerations

  • Students can participate in the program with their VISA status in consideration
  • Background checks are required for some sites
  • Students must be taking a class in the summer to be eligible for aid
