Master's Degree in Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology
Program Overview
Program Overview
The Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology program is a Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) degree taught entirely in English. The objective of the program is to prepare a professional figure expert in materials and in the design of processes and manufactured goods.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the program, applicants must have a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering or in other material-related Degrees (e.g., Applied Physics and Chemistry).
Mission and Goals
The program aims to stimulate students in acquiring greater familiarity with the terminology used internationally. Within the scope of the study plan, a number of specific specializations are foreseen, including:
- Surface Engineering
- Polymer Engineering
- Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology
- Engineering Applications
- Microengineering and Microtechnology
- Sustainability Engineering
Subjects
A total amount of 120 credits (CFUs) is required for Master of Science graduation. The Master degree in Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology at the Politecnico di Milano requires at least 45 CFUs in the following specific subjects:
- Solid State Physics (FIS/03)
- Chemistry Technology (CHIM/07)
- Structure Mechanics (ICAR/08)
- Metallurgy (ING-IND/21)
- Materials Science and Technology (ING-IND/22) And at least 12 CFUs in the following additional subjects:
- Mechanics of Machines (ING-IND/13)
- Mechanical Design and Machine Construction (ING-IND/14)
- Fabrication Technologies (ING-IND/16)
- Applied Physical Chemistry (ING-IND/23)
- Industrial Bioengineering (ING-IND/34)
- Physical Mathematics (MAT/07) 20 CFUs are also required for the Master thesis. In order to strengthen the practical and laboratory activities, each student must include in their study plan at least one of the 5 CFU courses offered in the LAB Group.
Career Opportunities
The Laurea Magistrale graduate in Materials and Nanotechnology Engineering has the ability to devise and manage innovation in the materials industry. They find employment mainly in companies specialized in producing, processing, and designing various materials and components, as well as in the area of the development of new applications in the mechanical, chemical, electronics, energy, telecommunications, construction, transport, biomedical, environmental, and restoration industries, as well as in research and development centers of companies and public bodies.
Academic Year and Duration
The program is for the academic year 2024/2025, and the duration is 2 years.
Campus and Language
The program is offered at the Milano Leonardo campus, and the language of instruction is English.
School
The program is part of the School of Industrial and Information Engineering.
