Program Overview
Introduction to the Unitech International Program
The Unitech International program is a partnership between universities and companies from seven countries. The program aims to integrate engineering studies with international experience and a solid foundation in business and management.
Partner Universities
The partner universities in the Unitech International program are:
- Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) Aachen
- Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg
- Insa-Lyon
- Politecnico di Milano
- Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich
- Trinity College Dublin
- Loughborough University
- Universitat Politecnica de Barcelona – UPC, Barcellona, Spagna
Program Content and Duration
The Unitech International program starts with a one-week startup course at the end of August, organized jointly for all Unitech students. All Unitech students meet for the Midterm week (first week of January) and for the year-end event at the end of August. In addition to this common core, the program content is customized for each student, with a combination of engineering courses and business and management studies.
The program uses the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) as a measure of academic study units. Each month of internship is worth 10 credits for the Unitech program. The student must earn a minimum of 90 credits during the Unitech International exchange period. At least 20 of these credits must come from academic studies at the host university abroad, where students spend a full semester. Another 30 credits must come from the internship. The 30 variable credits can be earned by gaining more credits at the host institution or with a longer internship or both. The joint Unitech modules count as 10 credits. To successfully complete the program, it is also necessary to obtain a minimum of 10 academic credits in business and management
on-technical courses. These can be obtained at the home university before and after the year abroad or at the Politecnico di Milano during the Unitech academic exchange.
The duration of the Unitech International Program is one year, divided between academic work at one of the partner universities and an internship of at least three months in one of the partner companies.
Academic Partners
One of the unique features of the Unitech International program is its strong link with partner companies. The companies commit to pursuing the program's educational goals, ensuring that the internship period offers challenging tasks in an interesting environment, giving the student a deep insight into the international aspects of corporate management in practice.
Corporate Partners
The following leading companies have joined the Unitech program as Corporate Partners:
- ABB
- Biomérieux
- Bühler Group
- Covestro
- Danfoss
- Evonik Industries
- Geberit
- Hilti
- Hyva
- Infineon Technologies
- Kingspan
- Kostal
- Metall Zug
- Truma
Unitech Alumni Association
After completing a year of the Unitech program, Unitech students can become members of the Unitech Alumni Association. The Unitech Alumni Association (UAA) is a network of young international engineering professionals who have participated in the Unitech International program.
Scholarship
Unitech International students pay tuition fees only at their home institution. Living expenses during the three joint modules are covered by the Unitech International Society. During the internship, Unitech students receive a salary from the company that employs them, which should cover at least living expenses.
Selection Process
The selection process for the Unitech International program consists of two phases:
Online Application
Students can apply with an online application at the Unitech website. The application includes the student's curriculum vitae, a letter of motivation explaining why the student wants to participate in the Unitech International program, and a preliminary study plan indicating the courses the student intends to take during the study period abroad at each of the institutions. Copies of any language certificates the student possesses and a photo are also required. The student can choose three alternative universities in the application.
Assessment Centre
Students selected in the pre-selection phase participate in the next phase: an Assessment Centre at their home institution, carried out in collaboration with Unitech's corporate partners. The assessment focuses on soft skills and consists of a group discussion, a presentation, and an interview, all conducted in English.
Deadlines
The deadline for submitting an application for the Unitech International exchange varies at each partner university. Detailed instructions for submitting an application are available on the Unitech website and at the local Unitech office of the student's home institution.
