Medicinal and Biopharmaceutical Chemistry Program

The Medicinal and Biopharmaceutical Chemistry program is offered by the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Lisbon.


Goals

The specific aims of this program include:


  • Providing knowledge of the general methodology for drug synthesis
  • Understanding the impact of metabolism and pharmacokinetics in drug design
  • Highlighting the importance of molecular modeling in the discovery and design of new drugs
  • Providing the basic methodology of structural identification using spectroscopic methods
  • Providing new research strategies for discovering drug leads from plant-derived bioactive compounds
  • Providing knowledge in Biological Chemistry that allows functionalization of biomolecules
  • Providing methodologies in drug discovery and development for target identification and diagnostics
  • Applying the knowledge described above in an integrated manner towards the study of specific groups of drugs, focusing on the current state of knowledge and the problems to be solved
  • Stimulating critical reading of scientific literature
  • Providing an introduction to scientific research in the field of Pharmaceutical Chemistry
