Program Overview
The Enfermagem Médico-Cirúrgica - Pessoa em Situaçăo Paliativa program is offered by the Escola Superior de Enfermagem at the Universidade de Lisboa. The program aims to develop a practice of nursing care in situations of greater complexity, focusing on human responses to life processes and health problems of clients and families in palliative care situations.
Objectives
- Develop a practice of nursing care in situations of greater complexity.
- Act according to ethical and legal obligations, promoting safety, respecting human rights, and professional responsibilities.
- Lead teams and processes in the scope of nursing care and health.
- Conduct processes of using, producing, and disseminating scientific knowledge and creating original projects in nursing.
- Initiate innovation and sustained changes in knowledge, collaboration, and consultation in multidisciplinary contexts.
- Communicate with the person in a palliative situation and family in a therapeutic context and with the public, specialist or not, in other contexts.
- Assume professional development, promotion of the discipline, and valorization of the profession.
Professional Outcomes
Graduates of the Enfermagem Médico-Cirúrgica - Pessoa em Situaçăo Paliativa program are qualified with a master's degree, level 7 of the National Qualifications Framework (QNQ), and if they are holders of the professional title of nurse, with two years of professional experience and having completed the modality of Internship with Report, they are eligible to request the Ordem dos Enfermeiros (Nursing Order) for the title of Specialist Nurse. They possess specific and common competencies for:
- A specialized practice of nursing care in high complexity situations with the person in a palliative situation and family in any context.
- Leadership of care and teams.
- Production and dissemination of scientific knowledge and creation of original applications.
- Initiating innovation and sustained changes in knowledge in multidisciplinary contexts.
Admission Criteria
- Be the holder of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with at least 240 ECTS, or a legally equivalent degree, obtained from a Portuguese institution of higher education.
- Be the holder of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with at least 240 ECTS, conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a state adhering to this process.
