Program Overview
Engenharia de Minas e Recursos Energéticos
Overview
The Bachelor's degree in Mining and Energy Resources Engineering aims to prepare students for the management of two essential resources: raw materials (particularly critical mineral resources) and energy. These resources are crucial for the transition to a green economy and the energy transition.
Objectives
The program's objectives are to:
- Provide students with a solid foundation in Engineering Sciences and Specialty, enabling them to develop essential competencies in four domains:
- Prospecting for Mineral Resources
- Information Technologies and Spatial Data Sciences
- Technologies for Exploring Mines, Quarries, Groundwater, and Energy Resources
- Environment and Sustainable Management of Extraction Projects
Prospecting for Mineral Resources
Students will learn new methods and technologies for geological prospecting, including geophysical, geochemical, and geological methods, to identify new geological resources.
Information Technologies and Spatial Data Sciences
The program will provide students with a strong component of Information Technologies (IT) and Spatial Data Sciences, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Geomathematics, and Data Science. These skills are fundamental for the modern mining and energy industry, which relies on digital mining, smart mining, automation, and robotics.
Technologies for Exploring Mines, Quarries, Groundwater, and Energy Resources
Students will learn the basics of technologies for the entire production chain of modern mining engineering, including smart mining. They will also gain skills in managing and exploring groundwater and geothermal resources.
Environment and Sustainable Management of Extraction Projects
The program will provide students with a solid foundation for evaluating and managing environmentally sustainable extraction projects. This includes ensuring that all exploration projects are economically and environmentally beneficial for all stakeholders, particularly local populations where these projects are implemented.
Career Outcomes
Graduates of the Bachelor's degree in Mining and Energy Resources Engineering will acquire a solid background that enables them to pursue further studies in any Master's program at the university or internationally.
