About Program
Program Overview
Program Overview
The program in Ecological Modeling and Data Analysis is offered by the Institute of Geography and Territorial Planning. The primary objective is to equip students with advanced productivity skills in utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools, ecological modeling, and data analysis. This includes proficiency in software such as ArcGIS, SAGAGIS, QGIS, Excel, and programming languages like R, alongside an understanding of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques.
Program Objectives
- Utilize GIS, ecological modeling, and data analysis tools with high productivity.
- Develop competencies necessary for working with GIS software, statistical analysis, and Machine Learning models.
- Integrate knowledge from various fields to analyze and predict ecological phenomena.
Topics Covered
- Introduction to Ecological Modeling and Data Analysis: Concepts and reviews of fundamental principles.
- Data Structure, Preparation, and Manipulation: Understanding how to organize, clean, and prepare data for analysis.
- Descriptive Statistics, Data Visualization, and Correlation Analysis: Applying statistical methods to geographical information.
- Species Distribution Modeling (SDM): Introduction to parametric and non-parametric methods, including generalized linear models (GLM), logistic regression, artificial neural networks, and maximum entropy.
- Workflow Production for SDM: Creating predictive maps of species occurrence and abundance.
- SDM for Future Climate Change Scenarios: Using bioclimatic envelopes (BIOCLIM and DOMAIN) to predict species distribution under different climate conditions.
- Automation of Operations and Simple Function Creation: Applying programming principles to ecological studies.
- Interface with Other Programs and Models: Importing and exporting ecological models to and from GIS software.
