Program Overview

The program "Perigosidade, vulnerabilidade e riscos no territÛrio" is offered by the Instituto de Geografia e Ordenamento do TerritÛrio at the Cidade Universit·ria.

Objectives

The program aims to:

• Provide a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts and terminology of risk analysis and its application in territorial management.
• Introduce methods for preparing cartographic databases and evaluating susceptibility and hazard using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Conduct spatial analysis of susceptibility, identify elements at risk, and create thematic maps.

Programmatic Topics

The program covers the following topics:

1. Conceptual Model of Risk
2. Risks and Territorial Planning
3. Organization and processing of spatial data in GIS for natural phenomenon analysis
4. Evaluation of susceptibility and hazard of natural phenomena (e.g., soil erosion, floods, landslides, aquifer contamination, rural fires)
5. Identification of elements at risk and thematic mapping

Observations

Special conditions apply to:

• Alumni of IGOT, who are entitled to a 25% discount on tuition fees
• IGOT partners, who can receive discounts on tuition fees and exemption from application fees, depending on the number of registrations

Admission Requirements

Admission is open to:

• Holders of a bachelor's degree or equivalent in territorial sciences, environmental sciences, social sciences, architecture, civil engineering, or related fields
• Holders of a foreign academic degree in the above-mentioned areas, recognized by the IGOT Scientific Council
• Individuals with a curriculum that demonstrates the capacity to complete the course, as recognized by the IGOT Scientific Council
