Doctoral Program in Territorial Engineering
Program Overview
Program Overview
The Doctoral Program in Territorial Engineering is designed to provide a comprehensive response to the imperatives of preparing highly qualified researchers and technicians in the field of planning. The program is framed by the principles of the Bologna Declaration and aims to form investigators with high qualifications and a great capacity for autonomous work.
History
The Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture initiated its master's program in 1981/82, with master's degrees in Operational Research and Systems Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Regional and Urban Planning. The implementation of the Bologna Declaration allowed the department to adapt its offer of third-cycle studies, including the proposed Doctoral Program in Territorial Engineering.
Objectives
The program focuses on the core objective of forming highly qualified investigators with a great capacity for autonomous work, both in the academic and business environments, focusing on forms of urbanization and territorial management.
Target Audience
The program is designed for holders of a 2nd cycle degree, national or foreign, or a pre-Bologna license with 5 years, in Territorial Engineering, Architecture, Urbanism, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Economics, Geography, Sociology, or related fields, who wish to pursue, consolidate, or deepen a scientific or technical career.
Professional Outcomes
The professional opportunities for Doctors in Territorial Engineering are situated, beyond the academic area, in a wide range of public and private institutions, including those involved in urbanization and infrastructure processes or urban policies.
Operational Regime
The program operates in a regime of classes (2 semesters, 1 to 2 days/week) and a tutorial regime (thesis preparation period).
