Overview
The Mestrado em Bioinform·tica e Biologia Computacional is a master's program that aims to provide advanced training in the areas of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, complementing the first cycle of studies. The program is designed for students from the first cycle in the areas of Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Agronomy, Health Sciences, and related fields, as well as students from the first cycle in the area of Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Mathematics, and related fields who wish to acquire complementary training in the areas of interface between Life Sciences and Information and Computing Technologies.
Objectives
The program's objective is to provide students with advanced and specialized knowledge, applicable in areas of cutting-edge scientific research and areas of growing employability for highly qualified human resources with differentiated training, such as the pharmaceutical, health, and biotechnology sectors.
Competencies
The program aims to develop the following competencies:
- Interface between Life Sciences and Information and Computing Technologies
- Technical-scientific support for advanced analysis of biological data, including new generation genetic sequencing technologies
- Development of information systems for biomedical applications

The Faculty of Sciences has been a pioneer in teaching Bioinformatics in Portugal, with the first course starting in 2002, and has accumulated over 20 years of experience and knowledge in teaching and research in the area. The quality, internationalization, and interdisciplinarity of the master's program are evident in the over one hundred dissertations available for consultation in the ULisboa Repository.
