Introduction to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, established in 1830, is a prestigious institution dedicated to providing high-quality education in veterinary medicine. Master in Equine Science
The Master in Equine Science is a 2-year program (4 semesters) that comprises a total of 120 ECTS. The program aims to provide high-level training in the area of horse production and use, based on updated technical and scientific knowledge.
Objectives
The Master course in Equine Science (MCE) aims to:
- Provide high-level training in the area of horse production and use, based on updated technical and scientific knowledge.
- Contribute to the development and consolidation of scientific research in this field, promoting the application of specialized knowledge on innovative methodologies and techniques.
Target Audience
The program is designed for holders of a bachelor's or master's degree, or legal equivalent, in the areas of Veterinary, Animal Science, Agricultural and Biological Sciences or similar. Individuals with an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum within the sector of horse production and use may also be considered.
Structure
The MCE is coordinated by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FMV) and has the formal involvement of two other Schools of the University of Lisbon, FMH (Faculty of Human Kinetics) and ISA (School of Agriculture).
Partner Institutions
The Master in Equine Science also collaborates with relevant entities in the organization and functioning of this sector, including the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art (EPAE) and the Portuguese Equestrian Federation (FEP).
Application
Applications for the admission to the Master in Equine Science 2025/2027 (2nd Edition) will take place in two periods:
- 1st Period: 1 March to 31 May 2025 - National, European Union, and International Students
- 2nd Period: 15 June to 30 August 2025 - National and European Union Students
Operation and Schedule
The Master course takes place over 2 years (4 semesters), comprising a total of 120 ECTS. The program consists of a curricular part during the first year and a second year where students will carry out a curricular traineeship.
Format
Classes will be held in a face-to-face format, and the classes will be held in Portuguese, although there may be occasional classes in English.
Calendar
- 1st Semester: Classes begin on 11 September 2025, Christmas holidays from 21 December 2025 to 7 January 2026, semester fall on 31 January 2026, and exam appeal period from 2 to 11 February 2026.
- 2nd Semester: Classes begin on 12 February 2026, Easter holidays from 29 March to 8 April 2026, semester fall on 11 July 2026, and exam appeal period from 20 to 31 July 2026.
Tuition Fee
- National or equivalent student: 2,000 (1st year) and 1,500 (2nd year), payable in 10 installments.
- International student: 3,000 (1st year) and 2,500 (2nd year), payable in 10 installments.
