The M.D./M.B.A. dual degree program at Baylor College of Medicine and Rice University provides students with the opportunity to earn both degrees from institutions consistently ranked among the top in the nation for their respective disciplines.
Program Overview
Over five years, students complete all the requirements for the M.D. Program at Baylor College of Medicine and for the M.B.A. at Rice University's Jones Graduate School of Business.
Program Director's Message
As Director of Baylor College of Medicine's M.D./M.B.A. Program, the director is excited that students are interested in exploring the unparalleled experiences that await trainees in the world's largest medical center. The program with Rice University's Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business will open students to worlds of opportunity and the connections that will take them there.
Program Structure
Students in the M.D./M.B.A. spend four years at the medical school and one and a half years at the Jones Graduate School of Business, with an overlap during the summer of their fourth year of studies. Students must complete three years of medical school before entering the M.B.A. program.
- Year 1: Baylor College of Medicine

Dual Degree Requirements
- Credit Requirements: Medical School credit requirements based on matriculation year; Business School credit requirements. During business school, students in the M.D./M.B.A. program must complete all core business classes in their first year and 15 elective business school credits in their second year.
- Minimum Time Requirements: 5 years
- Academic requirements:
- Students in the M.D./M.B.A. program must satisfy all academic requirements for the M.D. degree, including:
- All required foundational courses
- All required clinical courses
- Elective requirements for dual degree students
- The BCM CPX
- Pass score on USMLE Step 1, Step 2CK, and Step 2CS
- Have no professional deficiencies
- Students in the M.D./M.B.A. program follow the same course of study as single-degree full-time M.B.A. students and must satisfy all of the Jones Graduate School of Business requirements for graduation.
- Students in the M.D./M.B.A. program must satisfy all academic requirements for the M.D. degree, including:
