Introduction to the Neuropathology Fellowship Program
The Neuropathology Fellowship Program is a two-year program that offers a comprehensive education in diagnostic and investigational neuropathology. The program is an alliance of several affiliated institutions in the Texas Medical Center, providing access to a high volume of surgical and autopsy material.

- Number of Positions: Two
- Length: Two years The program prepares trainees to be competent in both diagnostic and investigational neuropathology, with access to approximately 3,000 brain and spinal cord biopsies, 450 autopsies, and 200 pediatric/adult neuromuscular biopsies per year.
Admissions
Admissions Information
Applicants must be Board eligible in anatomic and clinical pathology, or anatomic pathology. It is also possible for applicants having Board eligibility in neurology or neurosurgery to enter the fellowship after one year of training in anatomic pathology.
- Types and Numbers of Appointments: Two accredited neuropathology fellowship positions.
- Stipend: Stipend is commensurate with the training level of the applicant.
Curriculum
Research
Research activity is required during the fellowship and may be pursued within the Neuropathology Fellowship Program with faculty members in the following areas of interest:
- Molecular Foundations of Neural Injury in Stroke and Trauma
- Molecular Pathology of Pediatric Brain Tumors and Molecular Genetic Pathology
- Surgical and Autopsy Neuropathology
- Neurodegenerative Disorders
- Neuro-Oncology
- Molecular Pathology of Brain Tumors
- Diagnostic Neuro-Oncology
- Forensic Neuropathology There are also research opportunities outside of the Neuropathology Fellowship Program in several basic science and clinical departments.
