Introduction to the Pediatric Point-Of-Care Ultrasound Fellowship

The Pediatric Point-Of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital is a unique educational opportunity. Established in 2015, it is the only pediatric POCUS fellowship in the South, located in Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Texas Children's Hospital is one of the nation's premier children's hospitals and home to the largest number of pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists in the largest medical center in the world.


About the Program

The fellowship is part of the education offerings in the Division of Emergency Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. The Division of Emergency Medicine at Texas Children's and Baylor College of Medicine consists of 62 faculty, including 43 pediatric emergency medicine subspecialists. The emergency department serves as an educational center for pediatric emergency medicine fellows, medical students, and residents from the pediatrics, emergency medicine, and family medicine programs of the Baylor College of Medicine, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and San Antonio Military Medical Center.


Program Curriculum

The one-year pediatric POCUS fellowship offers an exceptional learning opportunity in an environment dedicated to physician education. Fellows participate in rotations at Texas Children's and the comprehensive medical center of the Baylor in the pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric cardiology, pediatric radiology, and adult emergency medicine departments. The pediatric POCUS fellowship helps fellows gain expertise in ultrasound image acquisition and interpretation, develop research and administrative experience, and integrate ultrasound skills with clinical practice to become a leader in the field of pediatric point-of-care ultrasound.


Program Details

  • The Pediatric POCUS Fellowship is a Texas Medical Board Approved Fellowship.
  • Patients will be billed for the ultrasounds.
  • Patients who get ultrasounds will require follow-up imaging.

About Emergency Ultrasound Fellowships

Emergency Ultrasound Fellowships was formed in 2008 to provide coordination and structure to Emergency Ultrasound Fellowships, a growing field of Academic Fellowships in Emergency Medicine. The goal of EUS Fellowships is to foster a community of robust, academically productive Emergency Ultrasound Fellowships open to physicians with an interest in improving their skill level in obtaining and interpreting point-of-care ultrasound.
