  • Noon conference: Weekly high-yield teaching from faculty and chief residents.
  • Department of Medicine Grand Rounds: Presented weekly at the medical school.
  • Wednesday School: An academic day with ambulatory didactics, QI projects, journal clubs, resident-as-teacher workshops, simulation sessions, and procedure training.
  • Intern Bootcamp: An annual day-long event for PGY1s to discuss common clinical scenarios and practice core skills.
  • Upper-Level Boot Camp: An annual half-day of workshops for end-of-year PGY1s to prepare for clinical leadership and team management roles.

Mentorship

Each resident works one-on-one with a dedicated faculty advisor to review milestone-based evaluations, discuss career planning, and develop goals.

Innovative Educational Programs

The program includes:

  • Distinguished Educator Pathway: A certificate of distinction in medical education for residents interested in teaching.
  • Longitudinal Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Curriculum: A year-long course teaching internal medicine-focused POCUS skills.

Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Curriculum

The program places great emphasis on quality improvement and patient safety training, exceeding ACGME requirements. It includes a comprehensive QI curriculum, longitudinal course for PGY-2 residents, and participation in hospital committees focusing on systems-based practices. Residents may also choose to do a QI project as part of a month-long research elective.
