Introduction to the NIH T32-Funded Research Track
The NIH T32-Funded Research Track is a comprehensive training program designed to prepare scientists for conducting state-of-the-art multidisciplinary research in digestive diseases. This program is co-directed by Hashem B El-Serag, M.D., M.P.H., and Fasiha Kanwal, M.D., MSHS.
Program Description
Established in 2010, the program is currently funded by the NIH through 2025. It is the only adult GI research training program supported by a NIH training grant in Texas and neighboring states. The program emphasizes epidemiology and health services research, aiming to train the next generation of researchers in these fields.
Key Features of the Program
- Vigorous mentoring for each fellow in a self-selected area of concentration
- Formal research education resulting in an advanced degree (master's or Ph.D.)

- Applied research seminars to model the use of research skills

- The research track includes 24 months of clinical rotations during the first two years.
