Program Overview

The Tischler*in program is a three-year training course that takes place in the Schreinerei of the University of M³nster. The program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become a skilled craftsman in the field of woodworking.


Your Profession

As a Tischler*in, you will learn to manufacture furniture, doors, and windows from wood and wood-based materials. You will work in a team with experienced craftsmen to complete individual projects and interior fittings. Your tasks will include processing wood, assembling and installing individual components, and creating sketches and designs for interior fittings and furniture.

  • You will be gradually introduced to independent work on projects and orders.
  • You will develop a thorough technical understanding of woodworking machinery and equipment.
  • You will learn to create sketches and designs for interior fittings and furniture.
  • You will gain hands-on experience in manufacturing and repairing furniture and other wooden products.

What You Should Bring

  • A high school diploma with a qualification in mathematics, physics, and crafts/technology.
  • Interest in working with wood and manual dexterity.
  • Good spatial awareness, technical understanding, and attention to detail.
  • A careful and meticulous approach to work.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Training Institutions

Your practical training will take place in the Schreinerei of the University of M³nster. The theoretical part of your training will be held at the Wilhelm-Emmanuel-von-Ketteler-Berufskolleg in M³nster, one to two days a week.


Duration of Training and Possibility of Shortening

The training program lasts for three years.


Examination/Responsible Chamber

The intermediate and final exams will be held before the Handwerkskammer M³nster.
