Program Overview

Double License in Sciences and Musicology

The Double License in Sciences and Musicology is a multidisciplinary program offered by Sorbonne University, combining the study of sciences and musicology. This program allows students to pursue their passion for both music and sciences, providing a comprehensive education in both fields.

Objectives

The objective of this double cursus is to acquire not only skills specific to each of the two disciplinary fields but also transversal skills through pluridisciplinarity and innovative teaching methods. It leads to a high level of openness of mind in the implementation of these skills.

Organization

The curriculum is organized over six semesters, each with a balanced pedagogical contract between science and musicology units.

  • The training consists of a fundamental core of training in Sciences (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Mechanics (solid, fluid, acoustics), signal processing) and in Musicology (History, Analysis, Writing, Harmonization, Current Music, Traditional Music, Musical Practices) and specific teachings combining sciences and music (Supervised Research Workshop, Audio Engineering, Acoustics and Lutherie, Musical Acoustics, Sound in Cinema, Audiovisual Techniques, Digital Sound Tools).
  • A foreign language training (English) is provided throughout the 3 years of the training.

Publics Vis廥

The training is aimed at bachelors and bachelorettes passionate about music and sciences who wish to pursue a demanding course in these two disciplines and are interested in interdisciplinarity. It is advised that high school students follow the specialized teachings of Mathematics and Physics-Chemistry or Science of Engineering in terminal to have the best chances of success.

Admission Criteria

The Double License in Sciences and Musicology is a selective training whose application is to be made on Parcoursup. In addition to the in-depth study of files, the selection tests are based on a music test and a motivation interview. The music test evaluates musical listening and reading skills, analysis, culture, and writing quality.

Pursuit of Studies

After completing this double license, students can pursue master's degrees in Sciences for Engineers at Sorbonne University (Acoustics and Signal Processing pathway), other master's degrees, or attend Grandes Ecoles d'ing幯ieurs. They can also pursue musicology research, administration, and management, or teaching careers.

Testimonials and Research

The teaching and research within the double license in Sciences and Musicology are based on the interdisciplinary themes supported by the Collegium Musicae Institute of Sorbonne University. Testimonials from students and alumni highlight the program's strengths and career opportunities.

Career Opportunities

The career opportunities for graduates of this double license are vast, including research, engineering, music, teaching, culture, audio-visual industry, and public organizations.
