Program Overview

International Master's Programme in Molecular Biosciences and Biotherapies

The International Master's programme "From fundamental molecular biosciences to biotherapies" offers an integrated state-of-the-art training in fundamental molecular biosciences applied to biotherapies through a multidisciplinary approach. The programme consists of four semesters (120 ECTS) and provides students with the opportunity to choose a specialization among different fields of biotherapies in partner universities.

Presentation

The aim of the programme is to attract motivated students to a fully integrated Master's course that combines the best elements of existing courses delivered by the consortium members. The programme is taught in English and offers students a high-quality education in Molecular Biosciences delivered at Sorbonne Université (Paris).

Objectives

The programme's objective is to provide students with a strong education in the molecular basis of physiopathological processes to develop new biotherapy strategies. The programme offers students the opportunity to choose a specialization option among different biomedical fields in partner universities for the second semester of the M1.

Organization

The programme is organized into two years: M1 and M2. The first year (M1) consists of two semesters:

  • M1S1: Fundamental molecular biosciences and biotherapies project (30 ECTS) at Sorbonne Université, Paris
  • M1S2: Mobility in one partner university depending on the chosen option among the different biomedical fields: theoretical courses (12 ECTS) and junior internship (18 ECTS)

The second year (M2) consists of two semesters:

  • M2S1: Specialization at Sorbonne Université, Paris, with theoretical courses and workshops (30 ECTS) and a senior internship (30 ECTS) according to the initial choice of specialization
  • M2S2: Laboratory internship (30 ECTS)

Specialization Options

The programme offers several specialization options, including:

  • Cancer Biology: Heidelberg University (Germany) and Sao Paulo University (Brazil)
  • Immunology and Biotherapies: Prague Charles University (Czech Republic), Sao Paulo University (Brazil)
  • Stem cells, Development and Evolution: Lisbon University (Portugal), Heidelberg University (Germany)

Application

There are two ways to submit an application, depending on the student's profile. Students residing in certain countries must apply through the Etudes en France website, while students from other countries must apply through the eCandidat Sorbonne Université platform.

Admission Criteria

The prerequisite for admission to the Master's programme is a Bachelor's degree (licence) in Biological Sciences or an equivalent diploma with a basic background in Genetics, Immunology, Cell biology, and Developmental biology. Students must also be proficient in English (minimum CEFR level B2).

Employment Prospects

Graduates will emerge with critical understanding of basic and applied scientific knowledge and excellent professional and personal skills. The specializations allow students to obtain multiple high and original qualifications in complementary disciplines and generate career opportunities in academic research, pharmaceutical industry, biomedical research, and as managers in the public and private sectors.

France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship

The International Master's programme is compatible with the France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship programme. Students can apply for the scholarship, and the application deadline is usually in November for the following academic year.

Pedagogic Team

The pedagogic team consists of experienced professors and researchers in the field of molecular biosciences and biotherapies, including:

  • Charles Durand, Director, Stem cells M2 coordinator
  • Véronique Mateo, Immunology Path and Immunology M2 Coordinator
  • Joelle Sobczak-Thépot, Cell Biology M2 Coordinator
  • Clemence Carron-Homo, Developmental Biology M2 Coordinator
  • Anthi Karaiskou, Co-director, Cancer Cell Biology Coordinator, Mobility Coordinator

Administrative Staff

The administrative staff includes Cécile Bréault, who is responsible for the programme's administration and coordination.
