About Program

Program Overview

Introduction to the University Program

The university program in question is the Diplômes d'université (DU) – simulation et actualités en médecine d'urgence, which translates to University Diploma – Simulation and Current Events in Emergency Medicine. This program is offered by the Faculté de Santé (Faculty of Health) at Sorbonne Université.

Objectives and Competences

The primary objective of this program is to improve knowledge and implementation of therapeutic initial care principles and to develop transversal and multidisciplinary competences for emergency gestures and techniques. This includes the use of diagnostic tools like echography and biomarkers, as well as therapeutic tools such as emergency gestures, intubation, and ventilation.

Target Audience and Prerequisites

This formation is specifically designed for doctors who have had previous experience in emergency medicine. Preferably, these are emergency medicine diploma holders (CAMU, DESC, etc.) or interns currently in training (notably DES/DESC in emergency medicine).

Program Structure

The program consists of 9 seminars, the contents of which are detailed in an annex. These seminars cover a range of topics including:

  • Séminaire 1 (November): Choc
  • Séminaire 2 (November): Échographie
  • Séminaire 3 (December): Respiratoire
  • Séminaires 4 & 5 (January): Cardiologie + SSE
  • Séminaire 6 (February): Neurologie / Intoxication
  • Séminaire 7 & 8 (March): Onco-hématologie + Abdo-digestif
  • Séminaire 9 (April-May): Pédiatrie

Additionally, the program includes a 3-day adult simulation session and an optional 1.5-day pediatric simulation.

Methods and Pedagogical Means

The formation will be entirely dematerialized (for the theoretical part). The 9 seminars, dispensed during the university year, will be primarily in three types:

  • 72h30 of theory in e-learning
  • 7 hours of round tables
  • 21 hours +/- 7 hours of simulation (in-person) spread over 3 days + 1.5 optional days
    • High-fidelity adult simulation
    • Technical gesture training
    • Communication/leadership training
    • High-fidelity pediatric simulation validating the EPILS module, allowing for the obtaining of the European diploma (optional)

Courses will be made available online between November and May, with 1 or 2 seminars per month. All supports will be deposited on the MOODLE platform. Video courses will be visible as the different seminars open. For each seminar, exchange sessions with the various teachers will be organized, both in the form of virtual round tables and interaction via MOODLE forums.

Control of Knowledge

The final exam will be in the form of a QCM lasting 45 minutes and will concern all seminars. A score below 6 will be eliminatory, and candidates who obtain a score below 10 will have to retake a catch-up exam in June. Attendance will be recorded via MOODLE. Students must have marked all courses as completed and be at 100% completion.

Duration and Schedule

  • Duration of the formation: 100 hours
  • Schedule: The program runs from November to June, with seminars and practical courses dispersed throughout this period.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for this program vary based on the student's status:
