Program Overview

MASTER Philosophie : Esthetique et philosophie de l'art

The MASTER Philosophie : Esthetique et philosophie de l'art is a university program that offers a comprehensive education in the field of aesthetics and philosophy of art.

Presentation

This specialty provides a complete training in research, in the field of aesthetics and philosophy of art. It is based on the idea that philosophical reflection on art cannot be dissociated from in-depth knowledge of philosophical texts, art theory texts (art historians, musicologists, critical texts, etc.), and artistic realities and practices. The strengthening of this triple competence must make it possible to shed light on the issues of the debates in the field of art, to analyze works of art from a philosophical point of view, and to solicit in return the appropriate theoretical and conceptual elaborations. Emphasis is also placed on the qualities of conceptual rigor, critical distance, and cultural openness. This specialty also allows for the development of centered and relevant investigations; it trains students to forge a judicious and original research object, to build a thesis.
