Program Overview
Introduction to the iMOV International Master of Vision Sciences
The iMOV International Master of Vision Sciences is a program that focuses on the multidisciplinary nature of treatments currently in development for vision care. With more than 50 million patients in Europe and 700 million worldwide suffering from low vision, this sector is in high demand. The program aims to underline the variety of therapeutic avenues and provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the field.
Programme Structure
The iMOV program is developed in collaboration with the world-renowned Vision Institute and offers a full perspective of the multidisciplinary approaches used in vision sciences. The program mainly functions as a specialization of the Master BIP - Neuroscience, with selective classes that allow students to focus on vision-related areas of neurosciences. It also functions as a Dual Master with the partner university UNAM, allowing students to apply in the first or second year of Master (M.Sc).
First Year - M1
The first year of the iMOV program at Sorbonne University is the Master BIP's first year, with courses taught entirely in French.
Second Year - M2
Courses in the second year are taught entirely in English. The program includes the following courses:
- Semester 3 (S3)
- Vision from retina to primary visual cortex (6 ECTS)
- Neurophysiology of perception (6 ECTS)
- Physiopathology of sensory diseases and translational research (6 ECTS)
- Specialization coursework (6 ECTS)
- Developing a research project (6 ECTS)
- Semester 4 (S4)
- Master's thesis (30 ECTS)
Student Mobility
The iMOV program is a dual master with UNAM, the largest university in Latin America. This status allows students to receive two Master's degrees, one from each university, upon completing two semesters in each institution during the two-year M.Sc program. Students have the freedom to choose which semesters to spend in each university, except for the first semester of the second year, which is currently not open in UNAM.
Admissions and Prerequisites
To be considered for this program, students must have a Msc (M1) level in neurosciences, biology, or any equivalent field.
Research Areas
The program introduces students to cutting-edge technologies and current fundamental and clinical advances in the broad field of visual sciences. Research areas include:
- Neuroscience
- Biology
- Vision sciences
Conclusion
The iMOV International Master of Vision Sciences is a comprehensive program that provides students with a multidisciplinary understanding of vision care and its therapeutic avenues. With its unique collaboration with the Vision Institute and dual master status with UNAM, this program offers students a rich and diverse educational experience.
