Program Overview
Course Description
The course "Understanding Diversity and Inclusion" is a 12-hour learning experience, including 4.5 hours of live sessions. It is recommended that learners spend approximately 4 hours per week on this course, including the 1.5 hour live session.
Course Outline
The course is divided into three modules:
- Module 1: Raising Awareness about Diversity and Inclusion; EDI in Adult Education and the Educator's Role
- Module 2: Insights into Prejudice, Discrimination and Stereotyping; Inclusive Communication
- Module 3: Resolving Classroom Conflicts; Applying Inclusive Practice, Knowledge Transfer

- Evaluate attitudes, values and beliefs with respect to diversity and inclusion
- Discover what you really know and the source of that knowledge
- Define terms related to diversity and inclusion
- Identify ways to integrate diversity into your adult education practice

- Exchange ideas and methods for an inclusive classroom

Instructor Biography
Crystal Taylor is a seasoned human resources practitioner, adult educator, diversity strategist, and coach. Her career has been devoted to leading departmental policies, programs, and special initiatives. Crystal has owned and operated an independent consulting company since 1995, specializing in a wide range of services in the areas of training and development, speaking, consulting, and coaching. She is a Certified Coach and is also certified to administer the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI). Crystal has been an instructor in this Adult Education program since its inception and is passionate about advancing adult education, inclusion, equity, and social justice for all. Her formal education includes a Master of Arts (Adult Education) from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Saint Vincent University.
