Fire Officer III Certification Track

The Fire Officer III Certification Track is a program offered by the Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development. The purpose of this certificate is to track an individual's readiness to apply for Fire Officer III certification.

Who Should Take This Certificate?

• Any individuals who have already received their Fire Officer II certification.

Certificate Requirements

The certificate consists of eight courses over 270 hours:

• OLCD-FIRE0034 Station Officer Essentials: People & Operations
• OLCD-FIRE0035 Fire Prevention and Suppression Management
• OLCD-FIRE0025 The Environment of the Fire Station
• OLCD-FIRE0012 Fire Department Human Resource Management I
• OLCD-FIRE0016 Fire Service Strategic Planning
• OLCD-FIRE0036 Incident Command: Thinking and Acting
• OLCD-LGOV0037 Municipal Finance (formerly OLCD-FIRE0019 Municipal Finance)
• OLCD-PALS0031 Organizational Behaviour

To qualify for Fire Officer III certification, students must receive at least 70% on each of the courses. Upon successful completion of the courses, students may apply for Fire Officer III certification.

Fees and Schedule

Tuition fees are applicable for each course. Courses are offered at least once a year.

For Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) applicants seeking NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III and IV credits within the Fire Leadership Program, specific conditions apply.
