The Diploma in Meteorology (D.Met.) at Dalhousie University is a one-year program that allows students to explore their interests in weather and atmospheric phenomena. This program is the only one of its kind in Atlantic Canada and provides a strong background in atmospheric science, training students for a career as a forecaster or preparing them for studies at the graduate level.

Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission to this program, students must meet the minimum academic criteria:
- Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
- Achievement of the minimum average for the program of choice
- Completion of Grade 12 English (or equivalent course)
Admission to many Dalhousie programs is competitive, and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
Program-Specific Admission Requirements
Students with a general 90-credit hour BSc degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or other quantitative disciplines may apply for admission into the one-year Diploma in Meteorology program, provided they have completed the appropriate Physics and Mathematics courses. A strong background in Physics and Mathematics is necessary, and courses taken should cover Vector Calculus and differential equations.

What You Will Learn
To complete the DMet program at Dalhousie, students will need to take nine required courses:

- Atmospheric Physics
- Synoptic Meteorology I and Synoptic Meteorology II
- Atmospheric Dynamics I and Atmospheric Dynamics II
- Physical Oceanography
- Atmospheric Chemistry
- and Light Scattering, Radiative Transfer, and Remote Sensing
After completion of the Diploma program, students are eligible to be considered for admission to a graduate program in Atmospheric Science at Dalhousie.
