Program Overview


Course Description

The course, OLCD-TWRT0013 - Project Management Documents, is a 20-hour learning experience that includes 2 hours of live sessions. It is recommended that students spend an average of 5 hours per week on this course. The course explores tips and techniques for producing concise, easy-to-read documents spanning the project lifecycle, including requirements, statements of work, project charters, and status reports.


Course Outline

The course is divided into four weeks:


Week 1

In week one, students learn writing principles that help them write clearer documents. They also explore how to create detailed project communication plans, including audience analysis, communications plan, stakeholder analysis.


Week 2

Week two focuses on writing a statement of work. Students learn to write statements of work that build trust, clarify goals, gain commitment, and motivate action. Topics include evolving statements of work, SOW mistakes to avoid, building SOW templates, and drafting SOWs.


Week 3

In week three, students continue using writing principles to write audience-centered project documents. This week, they focus on project charters, which are persuasive documents that convince all parties involved to buy into the project vision. Topics include range of PM documents, project charter templates, project charter checklist, and project vision.


Week 4

Finally, students learn to write effective status reports in week four. They focus on providing a status of their project, as well as including recommendations, issues, and solutions. Topics include status report goals and strategies, templates, frequency, and action steps.

Notes

This course is offered in collaboration with Smartfirm and is hosted on their learning management system. While the course is primarily self-paced, it includes two mandatory live virtual coaching sessions. As an instructor-led course, participants have access to guidance and support from the instructor throughout the duration of their studies. All course requirements must be completed by the designated end date. Attendance at synchronous sessions is compulsory, and in the event of illness or other extenuating circumstances, participants are required to notify the instructor.

Shazia Awan has a Doctorate in Education from the University of Exeter and a master's degree in teaching English from the University of Manchester, UK. She has extensive experience working in international contexts, in the Middle East and South America, and has trained professionals and educators focused on developing professional, academic, and technical skills. She is also an experienced educator of English as an additional language, having taught in the United Arab Emirates and Canada.
