Program Overview


Course Description

The course "Evaluating Learning" is a 12-hour learning program, including 4.5 hours of live sessions. It is recommended that learners spend approximately 4 hours per week on this course, including the 1.5 hour live session.

  • Module 2: Reaction and Learning Level Data, Methods, Sources and Considerations
  • Module 3: Transfer and Impact Level Data, Methods, Sources and Evaluation Strategy

Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:


  • define evaluation in the context of learning programs
  • identify where evaluation fits in the program planning model
  • demonstrate the link between learning outcomes and evaluation
  • describe Kirkpatrick's Model of Evaluation
  • examine data collection, sources, methods and timing
  • review evaluation techniques for the four levels of evaluation
  • assess a variety of evaluation forms, tests and questions
  • discuss challenges in gathering training data
  • design a learning evaluation strategy using Kirkpatrick's Model

Instructor Biography

Joanne Fraser has worked in the field of adult education for over 20 years. She has designed and delivered hundreds of workshops, including leadership and team skills, interpersonal communication, train-the-trainer, conflict resolution, stress, priority, and project management. Joanne has a keen interest in helping individuals and groups learn from and adapt to the changes taking place in today's workplaces. She holds a Certificate in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University, a BSc degree from the University of Saskatchewan, and a MSc degree in Development and International Policy from the University of Bristol, England.
