Program Overview
Course Description
The Tractor Safety course is designed to increase awareness and test the competency of tractor operators with regard to the safe operation and use of farm tractors and implements. This course is intended for individuals who operate a tractor and farm machinery and want to improve their safety knowledge and skills.
Eligibility
The following people can take this course:
- 14 to 16-year-olds with a valid Nova Scotia Class 8 driver's license who want to be able to haul equipment on Nova Scotia roads
- Those with a valid Class 5 driver's license who want to increase their tractor safety knowledge and skills
Course Completion
Participants with a valid Nova Scotia Class 8 driver's license who successfully complete the course will receive a wallet card that enables them to operate a tractor with an attached implement on Nova Scotia roads. Please note that the wallet card is valid for a farm tractor and trailer if the combined weight is 14,000 kg or less. All participants who achieve a minimum of 70% on both the written and practical testing components of this course will receive a certificate.

Microcredential
This course provides learners with the opportunity to earn a microcredential. A microcredential is evidence of a skill or competency that is employment-related. Dalhousie microcredentials are developed in collaboration with employers, industries, and/or organizations that relate to the content. A microcredential can be displayed on social media pages, digital resumes, personal webpages, and in email signatures. To earn the microcredential in this course, learners will need to successfully complete a competency-based assessment.
Prerequisites
This course is not intended to teach tractor driving. You must have at least 10 hours of supervised tractor driving experience before taking this course.
