This course will review key pharmacodynamic concepts, including general mechanisms of drug action, receptor concepts, classification of receptor modulators, potency versus efficacy, dose response curves, therapeutic index, toxicity, tolerance, and additive/synergistic effects. These concepts will be applied to understanding clinical drug doses, selectivity of drug actions, and duration of drug actions. The course will also cover principles underlying pharmacodynamic drug-drug interactions, with clinical examples highlighted.
