Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry
The Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry program at Ajman University is a 3-year full-time program that aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to become specialists in pediatric dentistry. The program is validated and accredited by the Commission of Academic Accreditation, Ministry of Education, UAE.
Program Overview
The program's curriculum is based on guidelines from the Accreditation Standards for Advanced Specialty Education Programs in Pediatric Dentistry of the American Dental Association, the European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the Specialty Advisory Committee for Pediatric Dentistry of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The program consists of 67 credit hours, including 24 courses and a clinical teaching experience during the final semester.
Mission
The mission of the Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry program is to provide a post-graduate educational program in the UAE, in order to prepare highly qualified professionals to deliver compassionate and ethical oro-facial health care services.
Admission Criteria
To be eligible for admission to the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Dental Surgery issued in the UAE or its equivalent, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.
- Achieve a minimum required score of proficiency test in English, such as IELTS with a minimum score of 6.
- Undergo an interview by two senior staff members to ascertain their suitability for the program.
- Provide two recommendation letters from professors who have known the applicant and are familiar with their work.
Conditional Admissions
Applicants who do not meet the admission criteria may be considered for conditional admission. Conditional admission may be offered due to non-fulfillment of cumulative GPA requirement or English proficiency requirement.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate from the program, students must:
- Complete successfully the required credit hours (67 credit hours) with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (C.G.P.A.) of not less than B.
- Complete successfully the required clinical cases during the clinical training.
- Submit and defend a thesis before an academic committee of the College.
Evaluation Criteria
Applicants will be assessed based on the following criteria:
- Evaluation of Academic Performance Based on CGPA
- Entrance Examination at the Undergraduate Level
- Post-Internship Clinical Experience
- Interview Assessment
- English Language Proficiency Score (IELTS or Equivalent)
- Additional Dental Certifications (INBDE, NBDE, MFD, etc.)
- Prior involvement in the master's program as a volunteer or part-time participant
- Published Research in Scopus-Indexed Journals
Program Learning Outcomes
The program learning outcomes of the MSc. Ped. Dent. program are a summary of knowledge, skills, and competencies that a student is reasonably expected to achieve after successful completion of the program. These include:
- Knowledge: Identify and integrate the importance of knowledge from different dental specialties in prevention, diagnosis, and management in pediatric patients.
- Skills: Show advanced skills in interpreting pediatric dentistry literature and apply the acquired knowledge in daily practice.
- Competence: Demonstrate practice management aptitudes and take responsibility for critical decisions and governance.
