Introduction to the Pedodontics Residency Program

The Paediatric Dentistry Residency Program (MPaed Dent) at Ajman University is a three-year postgraduate program designed to prepare dentists for clinical excellence and academic leadership in the field of Paediatric Dentistry. Residents are trained to manage complex paediatric dental cases under expert supervision and to collaborate across specialties to provide comprehensive care for children.


Program Description

The program offers extensive clinical exposure to evidence-based practice in pediatric dentistry, including behavior management, pulp therapy, preventive and interceptive orthodontics, treatment under general anesthesia or nitrous oxide sedation, management of traumatic dental injuries, and comprehensive care for children with special healthcare needs. Residents gain hands-on experience using state-of-the-art technologies such as digital radiography, intraoral scanners, dental operating microscopes, and CBCT imaging, enabling them to deliver high-quality, modern paediatric dental care.

Admission Requirements

General Admission Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in Dentistry from a university accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.
  • Successful interview with the program committee.
  • One academic recommendation letter (Optional).
  • (If degree earned in a non-English institution): TOEFL 550 (PBT), 213 (CBT), or 79 (iBT); or IELTS 6.0.

Conditional Admission

  • GPA between 2.0 and 2.7: Conditional admission may be granted with a requirement to achieve an average of 70/100 or above during Year 1.
  • English Language Proficiency: May be conditionally admitted with the requirement to meet standards during Year 1.

Graduation Requirements

  • Completion of all academic and clinical modules.
  • Fulfillment of the minimum number of requirements as specified by the program.
  • Passing the Fellowship exam of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Knowledge & Understanding

  • Mastery of diagnostic tools and therapeutic techniques in paediatric dentistry.
  • Understanding of growth and development, dental anomalies, and the impact of systemic conditions on oral health in children.
  • In-depth awareness of the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities of a paediatric dentist.

Clinical & Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in behavior management, pulp therapy, and preventive and interceptive orthodontics.
  • Competence in delivering dental care under nitrous oxide sedation or general anaesthesia.
  • Confidence in managing trauma cases and treating children with special healthcare needs.
  • Proficiency in performing minor oral surgical procedures and utilizing laser technology in pediatric dental care.

  • Ability to critically evaluate literature, conduct clinical research, and present or publish findings at professional conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.

Professional Expectations

  • Full-Time Attendance: Attendance is mandatory on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the 3-year program.
  • Professional Conduct: Residents are expected to maintain a professional demeanour, uphold the reputation of the university, and adhere to ethical standards at all times.
  • Respect for UAE Laws & Culture: Residents must comply with local laws and cultural expectations in both clinical and academic settings.
  • Patient Acquisition & Costs: Ajman University supports the provision of clinical cases but students are expected to actively participate in case sourcing. Any exceptional material costs are the responsibility of the student or patient.

Fees & Financial Policy

  • Annual Tuition: AED 110,250 (inclusive of VAT).
  • Payment Schedule:
    • 50% of tuition payable before the first semester.
    • 50% of tuition payable before the second semester.
    • Cheques are accepted for tuition payments.
  • File Opening Fees (Non-Refundable): AED 1,575 (Mandatory to submit your application).
  • Refund Policy: As per the university's refund policy guidelines.
