Program Overview
Global Health
Global health is the understanding of health care in an interdisciplinary context. It includes the study, research, and practice of medicine with a focus on improving health and health care continuity, accessibility, and equity for populations. Global health initiatives take into account both medical and non-medical disciplines, such as epidemiology, economic disparities, public policy, environmental factors, and cultural studies. It also stands for finding a solution through efforts from people in a variety of disciplines. This is where the conversation of global health begins.
Ain Shams Ambassador Program
The Ain Shams Ambassador Program has several key objectives:
- Encourage departments to provide short-term medical convoys nationally and regionally in collaboration with the Global Health Program.
- Facilitate training courses targeting African champions and healthcare service providers in collaboration with Ain Shams University Virtual Hospital.
- Initiate and sustain at least one new service or training program annually in an African country or Egyptian governorate using the 'Treat & Teach' package managed by Ain Shams University Virtual Hospital and in collaboration with the Resource Mobilization Program.
A notable achievement of the program includes a team of three ophthalmologists and two anesthesiologists from Ain Shams University Hospitals performing 232 cataract extractions (including 32 children) at the "African Tropical Eye Institute" in Bamako, which serves several countries including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo. The team also delivered three lectures to postgraduate students.
