The AUC Road to College program is a free online gateway to independent English-language learning from The American University in Cairo (AUC).

The program enhances English language skills, improves proficiency levels, and prepares students to succeed in school and university. Although designed for 13-18 year-old Egyptian students, it welcomes learners of different ages and backgrounds from around the world.

Courses Offered

Foundations of English

  • 101: Learn basic English for everyday life, developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
  • 102: Understand simple topics, use words and phrases to discuss familiar topics, and describe simple actions.
  • 103: Read different types of text, understand formal and informal conversations, write short descriptions and messages, and express yourself using simple sentences.

Integrated English

  • 201: Enhance understanding of the English language for short social exchanges with English speakers.
  • 202: Deepen knowledge of common English language expressions and skills for everyday communication.

College Prep English

  • 301: Become an independent language user by developing the ability to interact with others and express needs in different situations.
  • 302: Become an independent user of the English language, using it in various contexts and situations, including etiquette, making medical appointments, and discussing favorite books.
  • 401: Understand core values and expectations of university life, as well as the academic culture in Egypt, while practicing English through self-paced activities, quizzes, and discussion boards.
  • 402: Improve the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) and widen vocabulary range in areas like environment, health, technology, entertainment, tourism, and consumerism.
  • 403: Acquire essential skills and knowledge to work collaboratively with other students, optimizing the learning experience in group projects or small tasks.
  • 501: Handle short social exchanges with native speakers and understand English texts and materials, covering topics like eating out, electronic devices, health and fitness, trips and holidays, clothes and accessories, and the environment.
  • 502: Become familiar with the term 'Global Citizenship' and practice the English language by engaging with topics about the world.

Opportunities for Students after Completion

AUC hosts several summer boot camps offering diverse social, professional, and academic learning outcomes. Any ARC learner aged 13–18 who completes a minimum of four ARC courses (starting at levels 201–302 or higher) by February 21, 2026, is eligible to apply for the Summer@AUC Bootcamps. Eligible candidates will receive the application form by email during the first week of March. All applications will be carefully reviewed, and shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews during March. Successful candidates will be offered one course free of charge. All courses run for one or two weeks between June 28 and August 20, 2026. Exact dates will be announced soon.
