Program Overview
Introduction to the Legal English Training Unit
The Legal English Training Unit (LETU) of the Law Department is responsible for providing ongoing and discipline-specific English language instruction to law students enrolled in the Program. The primary goal of the LETU is to enhance students' abilities to communicate effectively both orally and in writing as legal professionals.
Support Provided by the LETU
To provide effective support, the LETU assesses students' language abilities at the beginning of the semester and develops plans for improvement with the students' input. Periodic feedback is also provided to ensure students are meeting their language goals. Both individualized and group instruction techniques are employed, and regular office hours are held to provide additional support.
Workshops and Resources
The LETU regularly offers workshops on various topics, including:
- Effective Reading Strategies
- Navigating the Research Process
- Employing Legal Research Conventions
- Developing a Legal Argument
- Respecting Academic Integrity and Avoiding Plagiarism
- Effective Presentation Skills Each semester, the Law Department Thesis Research Orientation is also held. Additionally, all AUC students enrolled in law classes have access to the internal AUC LETU website, which provides a range of research and writing resources, legal databases, and Turnitin access information.
