Program Overview
The American University in Cairo (AUC) offers a unique summer program, "Back to the Future: A Journey Through Egyptian Art and Architecture." This program is designed for students aged 12-18 and provides a comprehensive introduction to Egyptian art and architecture.
Program Description
The program takes students on a guided tour of Egyptian art and architecture, from ancient to modern times. Through 2D and 3D modeling, coloring, and freehand sketching, students will enhance their design thinking and sketching abilities. They will learn to think in three dimensions and create finished pieces from scratch. The program also examines the artistic and architectural products of different Egyptian civilization eras and their influence on each other.
Learning Outcomes
The program aims to achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Identify the basic arts and architecture of different Egyptian civilization eras by identifying famous buildings/works of art belonging to different cultures.
- Compare artistic and architectural products of different Egyptian civilization eras and decipher their influences on each other and on their own inventions.
- See, read, and understand a building or a piece of art and transfer these seen objects, be it art or architecture, by freehand sketches and 3D models.
- Present the results of individual work and teamwork, formulate personal opinions, and discuss and debate topics about architecture and art.
Program Details
Duration and Location
- Sessions will run daily from 9 am to 3 pm
- The program will be held at the AUC New Cairo campus
- Fridays and Saturdays are off, and AUC holidays will be compensated for with extra hours
Fees
- The program fee is EGP 4,000, which includes materials needed
- Discounts are offered:
- 10% discount for siblings
- 10% discount for AUC faculty and staff
- 15% discount for AUC alumni
Eligibility
The program is open to students aged 12-18 years old.
Certification
All participants will receive a certificate of participation from AUC.
Transportation and Accommodation
- The AUC Bus Service is available for an extra fee
- Accommodation is offered at the University Residences in case needed
Instructor
The program is led by Heba Safey Eldeen, a professor of architecture and design at AUC and Misr International University (MIU).
Refund Policy
A 100% refund of the program fees will be offered in the following cases, if reported at least three weeks before the program's start date:
- Course cancellation
- Medical withdrawal
- Visa denial
