The College of Law and International Relations offers a course in Medical Law, designated as LAW 434. This course focuses on the interrelationship between medicine and law, exploring areas such as morality, ethics, proof, and professional responsibility.

Course Description

The course delves into typical areas of interaction, including patient consent to treatment, confidentiality, genetic information, and duty of care. It also considers ethical and moral issues surrounding contraceptives, abortion, and other fertility risks. Additionally, the course explores childlessness and respective treatments, including in-vitro fertilization, donation, and surrogacy. Scientific research and the use of human embryos in experimentation, as well as the limits of such use, are explained. The course also focuses on negligence and medical injuries under both statutory and general principles of liability. Medical evidence is crucial in the proof of sanity, insanity, diminished responsibility, causation, psychopathology, and other determinants of voluntary or involuntary action. Forensic medicine is of significant importance to law, having developed into a discipline in its own right.
